F1 Powerboat racing is one of those sports that is both exhilarating and terrifying. You have probably seen videos of these lightweight hulls flipping end over end before crashing into the water. So how does one capture this excitement without getting in harms way? By living vicariously through a remote control model. This model was 100% self designed but takes inspiration from real life F1 boats. Creating boat in Solidworks CAD software was very challenging because I wanted to make sure that all of the curves looked natural and realistic. The current goal is to get this 22 inch long model to reach 50 miles per hour. Note the cut outs for the windows; these will serve as the view port for the First Person View (FPV) wireless camera that I plan to install. This camera will then transmit live video to a virtual reality headset. This project is still in the design phase but I am starting to 3D print prototypes. Click the images below to expand them!
